Nium raises funds to replace Haber-Bosch, Earth’s most polluting chemical industrial process.

The Research Complex, Harwell, Oxfordshire, England — June 6th, 2023 — Nanotechnology company Nium raises $3 million in seed funding to scale up its green ammonia technologies.

Nium is decarbonising chemistry, delivering energy and eliminating emissions, starting with the most polluting chemical industrial process on this planet: ammonia production.

Revolutionising Ammonia Production

In a significant move towards transforming ammonia production and championing sustainability, Nium, the UK-based nanotechnology startup, expresses gratitude for the recent investment by DCVC. This funding, coupled with the leading contribution from AgFunder, propels Nium into a phase of accelerated growth and innovation, aligning with its mission to eliminate emissions and reshape the global ammonia landscape.

AgFunder and DCVC: Pioneering Investors Backing Green Ammonia Technology

AgFunder, a critical global agri-food-tech venture capital player, led the investment round. DCVC, a Silicon Valley deep tech investor, joins forces with them, alongside existing pre-seed investors, including Carbon 13, to bolster Nium's groundbreaking work in green ammonia technology.

Assembling "Minions" for Green Ammonia Production

Empowered by the capital infusion, Nium aims to materialise its vision by assembling its first-generation "minions." These small-scale, modular reactors, featuring Nium's patent-pending catalyst, prioritise low energy consumption, enabling the production of green ammonia at a fraction of the traditional costs and pollution.

Addressing the Haber-Bosch Challenge: Nium's Innovative Solution

Nium's revolutionary technology tackles a critical challenge in ammonia production. Currently, 96% of ammonia relies on the environmentally taxing Haber-Bosch process. Nium's low-pressure, low-temperature synthesis allows on-site ammonia production powered by renewable energy, promising a cleaner, emission-free alternative.

Tom Shields from AgFunder: Recognising Transformative Impact

Tom Shields, Partner at AgFunder, underscores the transformative potential of Nium's technology. He states, "Nium's revolutionary technology produces emission-free green ammonia, both as a feedstock for our food and an enabler for the hydrogen economy."

Nium's Global Vision: Beyond Ammonia Production

Nium's ambitions extend far beyond revolutionising ammonia production. The company plans to leverage its nanotechnology to expedite the hydrogen transition, streamline supply chains, and reduce industrial emissions on a global scale.

Lewis Jenkins' Vision: A Future Free of Emissions in Food Production

Lewis Jenkins, CEO and Co-founder of Nium envisions a future where Nium's technology plays a pivotal role in eliminating emissions at every stage of the food production process. He emphasises the potential to revolutionise how tomatoes and other produce are grown, cooked, and transported, reducing reliance on fossil fuels.

Nium, with the support of investors like DCVC and AgFunder, is poised to usher in a new era of sustainable and emission-free ammonia production, contributing to a cleaner and greener future.
